Swimming TimesWhat sort of times spent in the pool are best for swimming? What I have found out during the time I have been giving private 1-1 swimming lessons for the fearful and non swimmers is, that they need time to adjust to their fears of being in the water. My swimming lessons are geared to the persons ability to learn. To take in instruction under the stressful feeling of fear is very tiring, but most of all it is very exhilarating. Every person, when they learn how to support themselves, feels wonderful. I call this the 'honeymoon period.' So, because everyone is different when learning how to swim, the times need to be different too. Most people can manage 1 hour, some have had 4 hour lessons but on the whole 1 and a half hours is normal. My swimming lessons are not a conveyor belt type lessons, one out and one in. People want to have time to express how they feel, or to ask questions about what happens to them in the water. Also as I have under water video, they may want to discuss what they are doing under the water. All my students can take their DVD home with them and watch their swimming lessons progress from the beginning I have taught some people who have been told by their instructor 'you will never be able to swim.' That can be very soul destroying, especially when someone has plucked up the courage to take swimming lessons so I try and be upbeat and encouraging at all times. I feel that the whole time spent with me should be quiet and free from any interruptions from the outside this is why my pool is tucked away behind my other 2 shops at the front. The pool is right next door to the 2 bed-roomed house that I use for residential purposes.
